Dr. Neil Pederson is a consulting forest ecologist for the Eastern Wildfire Network project. He is currently an independent scholar and Highstead Research Affiliate. Neil has been studying the climatic response of trees and the disturbance history and long-term development of forests, especially old-growth forests, for over 30 years. While most of his research has been focused on the eastern U.S., he studied forest ecology and climate history in Mongolia, Russia, China, the Colchic Temperate Rainforest of Turkey and the Republic of Georgia, and Spain with a great set of collaborators. Neil is most curious about the growth, longevity, and ecology of broadleaf trees and forests.
