Dr. Avriel Díaz, Ph.D. is a planetary health scientist and Executive Director of the Global Council for Science and the Environment (GCSE), where she leads initiatives that bridge science, policy, and practice to advance healthier people through a more sustainable planet. Her work focuses on building equitable partnerships that translate scientific evidence into scalable, real-world solutions for climate, environmental, and public health challenges, bringing together governments, researchers, communities, philanthropy, and the private sector to co-produce and implement evidence-based approaches that strengthen resilience and improve decision-making.
Dr. Díaz earned her Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Columbia University, where her research advanced climate services for health decision-making. She serves as Co-Lead of the Climate Adaptation Working Group for the Lancet Countdown Latin America. She also holds a B.S. from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Aquatic and Marine Sciences and a Master's degree from Columbia University in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology.
